This paper is an introduction in the construction technique of models for inflorescence development by means of the theory of L-systems. An inflorescence is thought of as composed of a number of segments. It is shown how for these segments a set of instructions can be formulated and how then, beginning with an initial segment, the whole inflorescence structure can be generated in a number of time steps. The for mation of the flowers and the order of flowering are the two most important features of an inflorescence pattern and they, therefore, have been most emphasized.
