Structurally preserved angiosperm flowers are described from the Upper Cretaceous of southern Sweden. They are found in fluviatile deposits dated, on palynological evidence, as Upper Santonian or Lower Campanian. The material studied includes two species of Scandianthus gen.nov. and one unnamed, related taxon. The fossil flowers represent the best-preserved Cretaceous floral structures available and the preservation permits detailed study of organization and arrangement of parts. Comparison with flowers of extant angiosperms indicates a close relationship with members of the Saxifragales.
